Pool Barrier Inspection & Certification

Ensure your pool meets the required safety standards and complies with Queensland legislation. A professional inspection guarantees your barrier is secure and compliant with all current safety laws.

What Type of Dwellings Need to Adhere to Pool Safety Laws?

The Queensland Government’s Pool Safety Laws were introduced to prevent immersion injuries and drownings among young children. These laws apply to a wide range of properties, requiring compliance from residential and commercial pool owners.

The regulations extend beyond traditional homes and now include caravan parks, boarding houses, lodging houses, and even pools in commercial properties like offices, retail spaces, warehouses, and factories. Additionally, indoor pools must also meet updated safety compliance standards. Ensuring your pool is properly inspected and certified not only protects lives but also avoids legal penalties for non-compliance.

What is Required for Pool Safety Compliance?

To comply with pool safety regulations, an inspection must be carried out by a Licensed Pool Inspector, who will issue a Compliance Certificate. These certificates remain valid for 12 months for shared pools and 2 years for non-shared pools.

Non-compliant pools must be rectified promptly to meet legal requirements. Homeowners and businesses are responsible for ensuring their pool barriers meet specific safety standards, including fence height, gate functionality, and signage requirements. Regular maintenance and safety checks help prevent accidents and ensure ongoing compliance.

Pool Safety Compliance Requirements

To meet legal standards, your pool fence and barriers must pass an inspection to ensure they provide adequate protection against accidental entry.

Minimum Fence Height of 1200mm

The pool barrier must be at least 1.2 meters high to prevent young children from climbing over.

Clearance of Climbable Objects Near the Fence

Any trees, shrubs, pot plants, or structures that provide footholds must be removed from the fence area.

CPR Signage Must Be Displayed

A clearly visible, up-to-date CPR sign must be installed near the pool for emergency guidance.

Self-Closing Gates from All Positions

Pool gates must automatically close and latch from any position, preventing accidental access.

Routine Maintenance of Hinges & Closing Devices

Hinges and self-closing mechanisms should be inspected regularly to ensure proper functionality.

Gap Restrictions for Pool Fencing

The gap between the bottom of the fence and the ground must not exceed 100mm. The gap between vertical fence palings must not exceed 100mm.
