NSW Committee Member Training Now Mandatory
Members who do not complete it cease to be committee members.
NSW strata committee members must now complete prescribed training
Of all the changes that commenced on 1 April 2026, this is the one with the sharpest consequence for individuals.
All NSW strata committee members are now required to undertake mandatory prescribed training covering their duties, obligations and legal responsibilities as a committee member. Failure to complete it results in the cessation of committee membership.

For a scheme running on two or three willing volunteers, losing one to an administrative requirement nobody diarised is a genuine problem. Quorum issues follow, and so do decisions that cannot be made.
What committees should do
- Confirm which members have completed the prescribed training and which have not
- Treat it as a standing item, not a one off, since committees turn over
- Brief incoming members at the point of election rather than afterwards
Part of a larger package
The training requirement arrived with the third and final tranche of the Strata Schemes Legislation Amendment Act 2025, which commenced on 1 April 2026. Other changes in the same package include mandatory financial hardship statements in levy notices, standardised forms for overdue levy payment plans, and increased disclosure obligations for strata managers.
Developers picked up tighter obligations too, covering initial maintenance schedules, financial disclosures and utility arrangements.
