Strata Legislation Alerts
Deadlines and legislation changes affecting Queensland and northern NSW.
Legislation changes that affect your scheme
Compliance obligations move. Deadlines arrive, statutory terms get renamed, forms become mandatory. This page tracks the changes that actually reach committees and strata managers in Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Newest first.
Queensland
Interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms required by 1 January 2027
Every existing home, townhouse and unit in Queensland. Photoelectric only, in every bedroom and hallway, all interconnected. Four months out and installers are filling up.
New South Wales
Committee members must complete prescribed training
In force 1 April 2026. Members who do not complete it cease to be committee members. Small schemes running on two or three volunteers are the most exposed.
Capital works fund plans need the mandatory standard form
In force 1 April 2026. A plan prepared in 2024 can be sound on the numbers and still be in the wrong format.
Fair Trading can now enforce common property repairs
The section 106 duty has not changed. Who can act on it has. Deferring a known repair is no longer a private matter.
