New pool fencing laws were introduced in December 2010 to replace 11 different pool standards. Queensland Government has introduced one pool Safety Standard aimed at saving lives and reducing the amount of children drowning each year. The Pool Safety Standard applies to all pools associated with residential houses, units, hotels, motels, backpacker hostels, caravan parks, mobile van parks and other forms of short-term accommodation. In 2010 a five year phase in period was introduced. Effective 1 December 2015 fines around $800 may apply to non-complying pools.
